Industry Competitions

Here you will find competitions in which industry professionals may participate. Entrants contend for prizes, honor and recognition in areas such as design or craftsmanship of a wood product.

Best in Show Awards

Awards given to exhibiting artisans for best accessories, original art, and fine craft. In the furniture segment, separate awards go to the best traditional and contemporary artisan. A special commemorative award is given to the artisan best exemplifying marketing excellence.

Design in Wood Exhibition

An international competition of fine woodworking for professional woodworkers. 22 different classes of entries with $21,000 in prize money and merchandise. Hosted by the San Diego Fine Woodworker's Association (SDFWA) and takes place at the San Diego County Fair annually in June.

Doug Mockett & Co. Annual Design Competition

ISFD Innovation+Design Competition

The International Society of Furniture Designers (ISFD) INNOVATION + DESIGN furnishings and lighting design competition is a juried and curated competition open to ISFD members as well as members of the professional Maker/Designer community and post-secondary students.

Top Shelf Design Awards

Companies can compete for awards in ten categories plus a People's Choice award in this contest sponsored by Closets magazine. Category winners received a Top Shelf Design Award trophy commemorating their winning entry and Honorable Mentions in each category received a certificate. All finalists will be featured in a special section of the Closets magazine.

Vermont Fine Furniture & Wood Products Design Competition

The primary mission of the Design Competition is to provide Vermont woodworkers, from the smallest business to the largest, the opportunity to show off their well-honed creativity and skill. The design skills employed are only in part evident in the outward appearance of each piece or installation. Design incorporates choices of wood, appropriate joinery, proper scaling of elements, choice of finish and other attributes.

Wharton Esherick Museum Juried Woodworking Exhibition

Annual thematic juried exhibition occurs in the fall. Theme changes each year, past themes have been salt and pepper grinders, chess boards, and side chairs, with the only requirement being that the piece be made of wood.
